The Trust provides an ongoing staff-training programme to reinforce and update the necessary staff skills to achieve its aims. Our training aims to give staff a thorough understanding of the underlying impairment.

 

The Trust recognises that the staff role is crucial in providing an interface with the world. In particular, staff need skills and abilities to be able to: Understand and interpret the verbal or non-verbal communications of individuals on the autism spectrum.

 

Translate situations, events and concepts into language that can be understood and grasped by individuals on the autism spectrum. Be sensitive in the recognition of anxiety level. Manage and reduce challenging behaviour. Recognise the value of repetitive reinforcement and have the ability to make careful use of structure in order to counteract lack of motivation.

 

Our training programme ensures that we conform to CQC requirements and the National Care Framework with regards to induction and ongoing training. The training provided for all staff incorporates specialist training in skills for assessing the function of behaviour, behavioural intervention techniques, goal setting, skill teaching for individuals on the autism spectrum and communication skills.

 

This is in addition to providing the necessary statutory required training such as first aid, health and safety and food and hygiene. Training we can provide for others The Trust provides autism training for parents and professionals.
